Sadak was one of those movies with which I started watching Hindi Cinema in 90s.
It was a story about a taxi driver named Ravi, despite having personal issues and insomnia, he helped an innocent girl, who sold to brothel run by a transgender. They were on run. I do't do spoiler alerts, so watch it by your self for full story.
Mahesh Bhatt directed it, who was at top of his game with small budget films. I watched almost all...produced and direct by him.
It was an intense and dark movie. And Sanjay Dutt gave me the chill down the spin with his acting and looks.
Later, in early 90s the only access we had to Bollywood was film's video on rent and magazines/ newspaper's showbiz page, Eid cards, his pictures in newspapers regarding his weapon case made his screen persona so real and scary to me that till Vastav I always thought him as some real sarak chap. That is why he is he...his "screen presence."
There was Sadashiv Dattaray Amrapurkar with his award-winning performance as the film's villain, Maharani...uffff.
Pooja Bhatt literary looked vulnerable, and innocent.
Last but not the least, how can one forget music by Nadeem- Sharvan. Each and every one created their own magic and made this flick 2nd highest grossing film of that year.
Now, its time for Sadak 2. Trailer is out. This time it is again directed by Mahesh Bhatt.
Story starts from where it was left. Ravi is again depressed/sad, living alone with the memories of his dead wife. Now, there are other two: Alia Bhatt and Atiya Roy Kapur. Alia is victim of godman from some Ashrum.
She booked the service of Ravi's Taxi, and convinced him to take her as passenger. They pick up Kapur from a jail and go on a road trip. I guess they are going to meet that god man, playing by Makarahan Deshpande. Or they will all get in trouble, and Ravi will help Alia ...something will be like that. There is an ajeeb si scream of Alia Bhatt with a dialogue, " God is on our side on this road. " It is her style.
Anyway, is just trailer, upon which I am writing all this. Picture ana baqi hai. Can't judge a whole movie based on my opinion. Film will be released on August 28 on Hot Star Disney. I will wait for it uploading on Youtube.
All I could hope that it also left the same impact on audience, Sadak left in 1991.
The thing is that, no recent movie could touched me. There is something missing. Now movies are so costumed. The actors (star kids or outsider) are so cold and look Instagramed. Back in days, their was rawness, vulnerability and simplicity in everything. That is why no movie or actor can make you happy, sad, scare, thrill, laugh or cry... anymore. You can't connect. Hindi cinema is losing its original style...the Indianess we used to love. Films were feelings. The romance and comedy, action or songs....we loved it as they were presented in its Indian way. This new advanced look might take time for me to digest.
Or old Sadak is still alive in my mind?
bet my mom already watched it at least twice , shes bi fan of hindustan movie
