I was quite sure about myself since I was 6. Born as a female to a middle class family in 1982, I never felt like a woman. My father was a banker and mother a housewife. I am their fourth child.
My parents gave me everything. They never forced me regarding anything. And it is exactly their unconditional love, support and freedom I have survived. My best bet is that, my parents have idea about my gender identity especially my mother. We have always been so closed. However, till at the age of 37 we have never openly talked about it. They talk about my marriage, also encourage me to marry when I feel ready, though. Life is still a mystery. We are figuring out who we are despites knowing who we are. Either I am conditioned, understood or scared. I still don't want to come out. But when Ifrah approached me for her this particular project I couldn't say no. Even though I have lived shelter life but reality will remain the same. I am not a woman. This is pure nature. I am born this way. Fighting against nature is destruction and nothing else.
I sure have adjusted my self with society for the sake of my own survival. I sure have hidden myself in the closet pretty well but it is a double life. And believe me, this wouldn't go on for so long. No matter what, one day I would have to be out.

The above text is the first entry of my upcoming project " Lesbians and Transmen in Pakistan."
LGBT is a taboo topic in Pakistan. Some how transgender women aka hijra is acceptable. Lesbians and Transmen are still in the closet. Therefore, I am starting a project to tell the stories of Lgbt people who are still not out, and living there lives. Their stories matter. Sharing their stories (even without revealing their identity as if they want to remain in the closet) will be so much helpful to others to understand their lives, their suffering, and even their happiness. Feel free to contact me. And help me to connect them. Project is based on photographs and written text.
